Families are encouraged to donate gently used coats to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson. There is a large need for children's coats, but coats of all sizes will be accepted. The drive will be held from November 21st- 30th, students should bring the coats to school and drop them in the collection bin near the front entrance.

From Wyckoff Schools Weekly, 11/18/22

We are proud to share that Coolidge instructional coach Ms. Jigisha Vyas, was invited to speak at the NCTE annual convention for the National Council of Teachers of English. Ms. Vyas recently co-authored a series of instructional books, published by Scholastic, called Read Alouds with Heart. We are proud of Ms. Vyas’ pursuit of excellence on behalf of the Wyckoff School District.

Grades K-5 have been working very hard and enjoying the STEAM Lab.  Some of the topics covered in each grade level have included Fire Safety and Halloween safety in Kindergarten. First graders enjoyed using the Ozobots as they coded an emergency route from their house to a meeting spot outside. 2nd graders were introduced to a keyboarding website called Typing Pal. 3rd graders have been using/reviewing Slides to create a presentation on Cyberbullying. 4th grade has been focusing on how to be a good digital citizen by creating a Pixton Comic. Finally, 5th graders have culminated their Digital Safety unit on Cyberbullying by creating a Pixton Comic that resolves a bullying situation.

Moving forward, all grade levels are beginning a unit on Coding in preparation and celebration of the Hour of Code which takes place internationally, December 5-9, 2022.  We will be focussing on using Kodable in the lower grades.  Grade 2 will be introduced to a block coding program called Scratch.  Grades 3-5 will all be creating a variety of different projects using Scratch and using other coding websites.

In PE, each grade level has engaged in a variety of movement activities. Our kindergarten students have been using skills, such as offense/defense, throwing, movement patterns, and teamwork. They played activities with the parachute, which was a fan favorite! Each grade participated in Battleship, Wizards, and Stryker. Grades 1-2 enjoyed Fire and Ice, Poison Ball, and Finding Nemo. Grades 3-5 used a range of strategies in Hula Hut Throwdown and 3-Zone Pin Guard. It’s been an active November!

See this flyer for information about a Green Fair on Saturday, 11/19 at the Wyckoff Public Library hosted by the Wyckoff Environmental Commission. Students and parents may also enjoy watching this video on the importance of pollination that was put out by the Commission.
