STEAM LAB UPDATE

Grades K-5 have been working very hard and enjoying the STEAM Lab.  Some of the topics covered in each grade level have included Fire Safety and Halloween safety in Kindergarten. First graders enjoyed using the Ozobots as they coded an emergency route from their house to a meeting spot outside. 2nd graders were introduced to a keyboarding website called Typing Pal. 3rd graders have been using/reviewing Slides to create a presentation on Cyberbullying. 4th grade has been focusing on how to be a good digital citizen by creating a Pixton Comic. Finally, 5th graders have culminated their Digital Safety unit on Cyberbullying by creating a Pixton Comic that resolves a bullying situation.

Moving forward, all grade levels are beginning a unit on Coding in preparation and celebration of the Hour of Code which takes place internationally, December 5-9, 2022.  We will be focussing on using Kodable in the lower grades.  Grade 2 will be introduced to a block coding program called Scratch.  Grades 3-5 will all be creating a variety of different projects using Scratch and using other coding websites.
