students getting an instrumental lesson

The Coolidge School Student Council will be organizing shortly and is open to all students in grades 4-5. There will be an information session in the gym from 8:35-8:50 on Thursday, October 6th for any 4th and 5th-grade students who want more information.  Please see the attached flier.

Please note that Grade 4 Studio Art will begin on Tuesday, 10/4, and Grade 5 Studio Art will begin on Wednesday, 10/12.  If you have any questions or your child would like to sign up, please reach out to Mrs. Boyle. Studio Art runs from 8:20-8:50 AM.

As a reminder, and for planning purposes, Parent/Teacher conferences will take place on the afternoon and evenings of 11/2 and 11/16. Both days are minimum days for students. Be on the lookout for an email from your child's teacher in mid-October to sign up for a conference.

NJSLA score reports will be mailed home on October 3rd. These are reports from last year's grades 3-5 spring administration of this assessment.

I know that many of our students have watches (Gizmos, Apple watches, etc.) that have built-in texting or phone calling capabilities. As a parent myself, I understand that communication with your child outside of school hours, particularly if he/she is walking or biking home, is important. As we have seen an increase in students using these devices for purposes that may distract them from their learning, students may be asked to place these in their backpacks during the school day. Parents and students should not be texting during the day. You can reach your child by calling the main office. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we want our students to be as focused as possible on their school work and the learning environment.

THE WEEK OF RESPECT (10/3-10/7)

During the Week of Respect, Coolidge School will be focusing on our community! We have a lot planned including classroom activities and lessons, a school-wide meeting, Kindness in Chalk, and a special school-wide project.

Tuesday- At Coolidge, we are a TEAM! Wear your favorite sports team jersey or t-shirt!

Wednesday- No School

Thursday- We are a peaceful community! Show your peaceful side by wearing some tie-dye!

Friday- We live in a respectful community! Please wear your green Wyckoff gear, or anything green!

UPDATE FROM PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Ms. Reitano and Ms. Paton enjoy having the students in P.E. class two times per week! Their goal is for students to develop a passion for being active in and out of school. Students spent the start of the school year focusing on the values of teamwork and sportsmanship, and participating in activities, such as Pac-Man Tag, See You Later Alligator, Team Pin Guard, Hula Hut Throwdown, Flag Tag, and more. Ms. Reitano and Ms. Paton can't wait to continue sharing new and improved learning experiences for students in P.E. class.

UPDATE FROM ART CLASS

In the art room this September we were welcomed back with a brand new look.  The art room has been equipped with all new furniture and cabinetry.  It looks beautiful and the kids are loving it! We are all excited about the colorful stools and working in an inviting creative space.

After exploring our new space we reviewed the rules and expectations of the art room.  Kindergarten and 1st-grade students were assigned seats while 2nd through 5th-grade students pulled colored paper from a bag to find out where they would be sitting.  They really enjoyed this playful way of picking seats.

As we move into the art curriculum, each student in the school has begun drawing a self-portrait.  Mirrors are set up in front of each student and they are encouraged to take a close look at themselves.  To find the shapes and lines on their faces and to draw what makes them unique.  We will continue this portrait work over the next few weeks and self-portraits will be displayed in each homeroom when the work is completed.
