Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers, grandmothers, and maternal figures in our Coolidge Community! We are constantly inspired by the dedication, love, and support you provide to our students every single day. We hope your weekend is filled with relaxation and the appreciation you truly deserve—thank you for all that you do!
A huge thank you to the Coolidge PTO for providing a delicious Staff Appreciation Luncheon on Monday. Additionally, thank you for purchasing a fleece jacket with the Coolidge logo for all staff members. We will wear it with pride in our school and in appreciation for all that the PTO does for our community.
To further celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, the Coolidge Student Council hosted a game of "Two Truths and a Lie" for all to enjoy. Students were given three facts about each staff member and had to choose the one that was not true. It was a lot of fun, and we got to know each participating staff member a little better!
Parents are invited to check out our May Specialist Newsletter, which includes news from our special area classes. I hope you enjoy the photos and enjoy reading about all of the great learning experiences taking place in these classes!
Grade 3-5 students worked hard last week on their NJSLA Reading and Writing assessments. I am proud of our students for showing perseverance and pride in their work. Let’s keep it up with the math assessment on Wednesday for grades 3-5 and the science assessment on May 19th-20th for grade 5. Here are several tips and suggestions for students taking the NJSLA:
Make sure your child gets ample sleep the night before the assessment.
Provide a nutritious breakfast each morning.
Emphasize that your child should try to relax during the test and do his/her very best.
Suggest that your child read each question carefully and take his/her time on the assessment.
Check answers carefully, review for careless mistakes, and carefully plan writing tasks.
Take this as an opportunity to show pride in your work and show all that you have learned.

ATTENDANCE- 150TH DAY OF SCHOOL CHECK
Monday is the 150th day of the school year. Attendance letters for those children who are in jeopardy of being considered “chronically absent” will be sent out.
As defined by the New Jersey Department of Education and as noted in Wyckoff Board of Education Policy #5200, a student is considered "chronically absent" if he/she misses 10% or more of the school days in session for which the student was enrolled. As we have been in school for 150 days so far this year, I am providing this information as a guide so you can monitor your child's attendance as it relates to the definition of chronic absenteeism. Each school is required to report rates of chronic absenteeism to the New Jersey Department of Education. If any of the days were taken for a religious holiday, that day would not count towards the chronically absent count.
We understand that children may need to miss school occasionally due to illness or other reasons, but regular attendance is important. Evidence indicates that it is how many days a student misses, not why they miss, that matters when analyzing attendance and educational outcomes. Regular attendance is essential to a child's academic and social growth. Students who frequently miss school lose valuable learning time, exposure to class content, and opportunities to develop positive relationships with classmates.
