Next week, we celebrate Staff Appreciation Week! Every day, I watch the Coolidge staff go above and beyond—not just to teach lessons, but to inspire curiosity, provide comfort, and build a foundation for our students' futures. They are the heart of our school. Please join me in taking a moment next week to thank a teacher who has made a difference in your child’s life. A simple note or a kind word goes a long way in showing them just how much they are valued!
SCHOOLWIDE MEETING
During our Schoolwide Meeting last week, we discussed our C.A.R.E.S. competency of empathy, which will be the focus for May. We listened to the story The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodsen, which illustrated how we can all be a “bridge” to someone else by listening and understanding how others feel. My challenge to students for May is to find one thing they have in common with someone they do not usually talk to. Let’s make May the month where every student at Coolidge School feels seen!

FIELD DAY 2026- VOLUNTEER SELECTION PROCESS
The 2026 Coolidge Field Day will be on Friday, June 12th, and the rain date is Monday, June 15th. The PE department is excited to unveil our "250th Anniversary of America" theme and is seeking parent volunteers to help run the event.
Field Day volunteers need to be available from 8:25 am-12:45 pm. Please complete this Google form if you want to be part of the selection process. We have 60 volunteer spots available and plan to use a lottery system to select the volunteers.
All submissions are due by Monday, May 11th - each parent who wants to volunteer must fill out their own form. Please do not put more than one name on each form. All volunteers who are selected in the lottery will be notified by May 15th. Thank you in advance for your support!

NJSLA TESTING
Students in grades 3-5 will begin NJSLA testing this week. Testing begins at the start of the day, so please ensure that your child(ren) arrive at school on time. Students are encouraged to try their hardest, approach the assessments with a “can-do” attitude, and carefully check their work. Here are several tips and suggestions for students taking the NJSLA:
Make sure your child gets ample sleep the night before the assessment.
Provide a nutritious breakfast each morning.
Emphasize that your child should try to relax during the test and do his/her very best.
Suggest that your child read each question carefully and take his/her time on the assessment.
Check answers carefully, review for careless mistakes, and plan writing tasks carefully.
All students must have a working pair of headphones.
The testing schedule for Coolidge School will be as follows:
Reading (Grades 3-5): May 5th
Writing (Grades 3-5): May 7th
Mathematics (Grades 3-5): May 13th
Science (Grade 5 Only): May 19th - May 20th

I-READY LOGIN AND DIRECTIONS
All students have completed their third i-Ready Diagnostic. The Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that identifies students’ strengths and opportunities for growth. That information helps determine how to best support their learning and helps teachers set goals and personalize small group instruction for the remainder of the school year. Here are parent directions to access your child(ren)’s i-Ready reports.
