5th grade game hosts

On Thursday, we held our January School-wide Meeting. We played a fun game of “statue” and listened to the story Even Superheroes Have Bad Days to reinforce our C.A.R.E.S. competency of the month, self-control. Students learned they have the “superpower” to control their words and actions. Our Student Council Executive Board also gave an update and call to action for our upcoming Personal Care Drive…see below.

Next week is National School Counseling Week! Please join me in expressing our deepest gratitude to Mrs. Mapes for her tireless dedication to our students. Her expertise and empathy are so important to our school community, and we are so thankful for her.

Next Friday, February 6th, Coolidge School will celebrate Global School Play Day. This day reinforces the importance of free play without the use of screens, structured games, or adult direction. In the spirit of this day, each grade level will dedicate a period or two towards this goal. With children often so immersed in technology, video games, and social media, I encourage you to find opportunities for free, unstructured play/activities for you and your child(ren), without the use of technology.

Many of our students took part in Family Game Night this past Thursday, coordinated by our media specialist, Mrs. Han, and our technology teacher, Mr. LaMorte. It was great to see so many students and parents engaged in some “old-fashioned board game fun” for the afternoon. Thank you to our Fifth Grade Game Hosts, who facilitated many of the games for our younger students and families.

Our special area teachers have compiled a monthly newsletter featuring happenings from their classes. Click here for the February Newsletter.

Message from Mr. Cosman regarding this week’s school musical rehearsals: Check out the updated February Calendar for the upcoming musical rehearsal schedule. Students should enter via the gym doors. Please wait in your car until someone opens the doors at 8:15. Contact Mr. Cosman if you have any questions, or refer to his email.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year is now open. If your child is ready to start their educational journey this fall, please visit the district website for details and enrollment instructions. For planning and budgeting purposes, we would like to get students registered by February 20th if possible, so please spread the word.

VALENTINE’S DAY

Valentine’s Day will be approaching shortly. As a reminder, food or goody bags are not permitted to be brought into school to be shared with classmates. Students in grades K-3 typically give a card to each classmate (be sure there is a card for each child in the class). No food may be attached to the cards; if you want, students may attach a simple non-edible item, such as a sticker or a pencil. Students in grades 4-5 do not exchange cards in school, but teachers celebrate the holiday with their students in different ways.

STUDENT COUNCIL- PERSONAL CARE DRIVE

This February, the Coolidge Student Council is looking forward to spreading the love to our local community by partnering with the Social Service Association of Ridgewood to hold a Personal Care Drive! This organization serves the local communities of Glen Rock, HoHoKus, Midland Park, Ridgewood, Waldwick, and Wyckoff. Students and families are encouraged to bring in personal care items that will be donated to those in need. Items are divided by grade. Students can put their items in the collection bins at the front and back doors of the building. The collection will take place from February 2nd to 11th.

Personal Care Drive Items By Grade:
