Student Council elections took place this past week at Coolidge School. Congratulations to the many students who ran for an Executive Board position. Their speeches were amazing, and they are commended for taking a risk and assuming an active role in the democratic process at Coolidge School. A special congratulations to our newly elected President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, as well as 4th/5th-grade homeroom reps. Student Council Meetings are open to all 4th and 5th-grade students and take place before school at 8 am. Here are the meeting dates for 4th and 5th-grade students.
Fourth-grade students enjoyed a great day touring Ellis Island last week. This trip serves as a great connection to their unit on immigration and allows them to experience history firsthand.
Message from Mr. Cosman regarding this week’s school musical rehearsals: Check out the updated October Calendar for this week's upcoming musical rehearsal schedule. For now, students should enter via the main entrance doors. Contact Mr. Cosman if you have any questions, or refer to his email.
The New Jersey Department of Education designates the week of October 20th as School Violence Awareness Week. This reinforces our ongoing message to students about identifying peaceful ways to avoid and resolve conflicts with classmates. In honor of this week, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Officer Rob for his dedication to our school and for all his efforts to help keep us safe!
UPCOMING PRESENTATIONS FOR PARENTS

PTO HARVEST FESTIVAL- THIS THURSDAY, 10/23
The PTO Harvest Festival takes place immediately after dismissal on Thursday, 10/23. I thank the PTO for organizing this fun, community event. Please note, the Harvest Festival is NOT a drop-off event. Parents are solely responsible for supervising their children, as the school does not provide supervision. Additional information about the Harvest Festival has been shared by the PTO.
HALLOWEEN
Our Halloween Parade will take place at 2:30 pm on 10/31. As there will be a lot of parents on hand, please be sure to plan enough time so you can park safely and legally. Once the lot is filled, you will need to park in the streets adjacent to the school. Please be considerate of our neighbors on these streets.
K-1 students may wear their costumes to school in the morning. Students in grades 2-5 are asked to bring their costumes to school and change into them after lunch. If it is easier for 2-5 students to wear part of their costume to school in the morning, that is fine as long as they can safely navigate around, use the bathroom, participate in PE/recess, and engage in learning. Costumes should not include guns, knives, or similar pieces and should be appropriate for elementary school-aged children.
Class parents will be joining classrooms at some point during the day to engage the students with a fun game, activity, or craft (class parents should refer to the email sent by the PTO class parent chairs). No food will be served in school. We ask parents not to send in any treats or goodie bags (edible or non-edible) with their children, as teachers are not permitted to distribute those to the students.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on November 10th from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on November 17th from 2:00-7:00 PM. There will be no school for students on 11/10 and a minimum day on 11/17. Additionally, November 18th is a delayed opening with a 10:20 start time. If you have not received an email from your child’s homeroom teacher to schedule a conference, please reach out. If you would like any other staff members present, please let your child’s teacher know. Additionally, feel free to reach out to any special area teacher or other staff member via email to set up a separate conference with them. The Staff Directory can be found here.
