sarah weeks author visit at coolidge school

We had a beautiful day for our 1st Annual Turkey Trot on Nov.19th. The students, teachers, and staff did an amazing job and ran a combined total of 439 miles in two hours to earn frozen turkey donations. Thanks to the generosity of the Coolidge Community, we were also able to DONATE 62 TURKEYS to the Center for Food Action. Thank you for your support of this event.

The first trimester ends on December 6th and report cards will be available for grades 1-5 via the Genesis Parent Portal after 3:30 PM on December 13th. The district website has been updated with a FAQ document for Standards-Based Report Cards and the most recent benchmark documents (among other items) for your reference.

Last week I provided some information about the reporting of chronic absenteeism to the New Jersey Department of Education. The following article from U.S. News and World Report titled, "How Parents Can Reduce Chronic School Absenteeism", might be of interest to you.

COOLIDGE STUDENT COUNCIL COAT DRIVE

Looking to help others this holiday season? The Coolidge Student Council will be partnering with One Warm Coat to host a Holiday Coat Drive! Families are encouraged to donate new or gently used coats to benefit the New Destiny Family Success Center in Paterson. All coat sizes will be accepted. The drive will be held from November 25th-December 4th.  Students should bring the coats to school and drop them in the collection bin near the front entrance. Here is a flyer for the coat drive.

SARAH WEEKS AUTHOR VISIT- MESSAGE FROM MRS. HAN

A big Thank You to our PTO for providing our Author Visit with Sarah Weeks. The students enjoyed their presentations to learn about where she writes (In peace and quiet in her upstate New York home), how she comes up with ideas (neighbor’s cloth line in “Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash”, watching her sons carve out shapes out of a toast to inspire “Cheese”), and how author visits give her a chance to listen to students to do field research. The students were engaged and inspired. Thank you
