As a reminder, Monday, 11/18, is a minimum day for students with a 1:05 PM dismissal. Parent/Teacher conferences will take place in the afternoon. There will be a delayed opening on Tuesday, 11/19, with the school day beginning at 10:20. Students may begin arriving at school at 10:05.
It was great to see so many families during parent/teacher conferences last week. When visiting the school for conferences, parents should enter via the front door. You will need your driver’s license to sign in. Please be sure to leave enough time to park and sign in before your scheduled conference time.
Be sure to check out this month’s newsletter from the Coolidge Media Center created by media specialist, Mrs. Han.
The Wyckoff/Midland Park Rotary and representatives from the Eisenhower Middle School React Club met with our third-grade students this past Wednesday, giving each of them a dictionary of their own as part of their yearly dictionary drive. The Rotary and React reps shared their organization’s mission of service, and inspired students to go out and help in their community.
1ST ANNUAL TURKEY TROT
Our Coolidge School community will host our 1st Annual Turkey Trot on Tuesday, November 19th during the school day. On this day, each grade level will go outside to walk, jog, or run laps around the backfield during a thirty-minute period. This event will help raise awareness in our students about food insecurity and rally support for local families. We hope to instill gratitude for our blessings and give thanks by making a turkey donation to support others in need. With that in mind, please consider donating a frozen turkey on behalf of the event. The frozen turkey drop-off will be on Friday, November 22nd on the front lawn of the school from 8:00-11:00 am. All donations will be given to the Center for Food Action to create holiday dinner baskets for families in need.
Please refer to this flyer for more information.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE
As defined by the New Jersey Department of Education and as noted in Wyckoff Board of Education Policy #5200, a student is considered “chronically absent” if he/she misses 10% or more of the school days in session for which the student was enrolled. As we have been in school for 48 days so far this year, you can monitor your child’s attendance as it relates to the definition of chronic absenteeism. Each school is required to report rates of chronic absenteeism to the New Jersey Department of Education. If a student is absent for a State-approved religious holiday that day would not count towards the chronically absent count. Therefore, it is important to notify the school if that is the reason for your child's absence.
Although it is understood that children may need to miss school occasionally due to illness or other reasons, the importance of regular attendance cannot be overemphasized. Evidence indicates that it is how many days a student misses that matters, not why they miss when analyzing attendance and educational outcomes. Regular attendance is essential to a child's academic and social growth. Students who frequently miss school lose valuable learning time, exposure to class content, and opportunities to develop positive relationships with classmates.
