coolidge students at harvest festival

As a reminder, students should not arrive at school until 8:35 as there is no supervision. This pertains to Safety Patrol members as well, as their post does not start until 8:35. I realize it is difficult to time up arrival exactly and you might arrive a few minutes early on occasion. However, for safety reasons, parents should not regularly drop children off 5 or 10 minutes or more early.

Our Lost and Found, located in the front entrance, is overflowing. If your child is missing a jacket, sweatshirt, or other item of clothing please stop by to see if it is there. We will be donating unclaimed items to charity at the end of November. Any clothing items with names on them are returned to the student.

To celebrate Fire Prevention Month, Coolidge School K-1 students enjoyed a visit from the Wyckoff Fire Department this past week. Students had the opportunity to tour the fire truck and hear fire safety reminders. We thank our dedicated Wyckoff firemen for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit with our students.

We'll provide all the necessary materials, so bring yourself and your creativity! Let's make some colorful memories together.

PARENT RESOURCE- DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES

As part of our work with the Responsive Classroom approach to education, Coolidge teachers think carefully about developmental readiness when working with students and planning lessons. This chart from The Center for Responsive Schools provides a quick overview of Common Developmental Traits by Age. It is adapted from the book Yardsticks by Chip Wood which could serve as a helpful resource for parents who want to learn more on the topic of developmental traits and milestones.

HALLOWEEN

Our Halloween Parade will take place at 2:30 pm on 10/31. As there will be a lot of parents on hand, please be sure to plan enough time so you can park safely and legally. Once the lot is filled you will need to park in the streets adjacent to the school. Please be considerate of our neighbors on these streets.

K-1 students may wear their costumes to school in the morning. Students in grades 2-5 are asked to bring their costumes to school and change into them after lunch. If it is easier for 2-5 students to wear part of their costume to school in the morning that is fine as long as they can safely navigate around, use the bathroom, participate in PE/recess, and engage in learning. Costumes should not include guns, knives, or similar pieces and should be appropriate for elementary children.

Class parents will be joining classrooms at some point during the day to engage the students with a fun game, activity, or craft (class parents should refer to the email sent by the PTO class parent chairs). No food will be served in school. We ask parents not to send in any treats or goodie bags (edible or non-edible) with their children as teachers are not permitted to distribute those to the students.
