WEEK OF RESPECT

Coolidge School will celebrate the Week of Respect next week, October 7th-11th. During the week we focus on respecting each other as a community! Lessons will be focused on kindness towards our community of friends in grades K-1, being a team player, working together, and sportsmanship in grades 2-3, and respect for our community of teachers, staff, and students in grades 4-5. In addition to classroom activities and our annual Kindness in Chalk activity, we will have some fun spirit days to celebrate the week. Lastly, we will have a schoolwide meeting on Monday to kick off the week. At this time our Safety Patrol captains will discuss how students can show respect throughout the school. We will also review our “Cougar Constitution” with our students and reveal our new banners. Thank you Mrs. Mapes for putting this together.

Here are the Spirit Days:

Monday- We are a respectful school! Wear blue to show your school spirit and to support Stomp Out Bullying!

Tuesday- At Coolidge, we are a team! Wear your favorite sports team jersey or t-shirt! (or Coolidge t-shirt)

Wednesday- Our kindness makes us shine bright! Wear bright or neon colors!

Thursday- We are a peaceful community! Show your peaceful side by wearing some tie-dye!

Friday- We live in a respectful community! Please wear your Wyckoff gear, or anything green.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND ONLINE SAFETY

Student use of social media, texting, online video games, and unsupervised use of technology often results in unsafe behaviors, conflict, and mental health concerns. At school, we have seen the impact of this as the above can get in the way of a student's ability to interact appropriately with peers and distracts from academic achievement and focus. Parents may be interested in the two resources below from the National Association of Elementary School Principals on this topic.
