5th graders gardening on earth day

The past week was a busy one at Coolidge School!

We kicked off the week with Earth Day lessons in each of our classrooms as students discussed the importance of taking care of our environment and the Earth. Our fifth graders took part in their annual Earth Day activities. These students did a tremendous job removing garbage and debris from the woods behind the school. They also planted annuals in our courtyards and tree saplings in the woods. A huge thank you goes out to our parent volunteers from the PTO Green Team who assisted throughout the day.

To celebrate "Take Your Child to Work Day", we were fortunate to have several staff members bring their children into our school community and participate in activities and learning experiences with our students. We all enjoyed meeting the children of our staff members who were Coolidge Cougars for the day!

We also celebrated Administrative Professionals Day and thanked Mrs. Gneiding and Mrs. Venema for all they do for our school community. Students made cards and posters to show their appreciation.

Lastly, our 5th-grade students visited Eisenhower School on Friday for an orientation. They heard presentations from the guidance counselor and school administrators, learned about extracurricular programs, and toured the school.

Message from Mr. Cosman regarding the school musical rehearsals: Check out the updated April Calendar and May Calendar for this week's upcoming musical rehearsal schedule. Performers should enter through the gym doors at 8:20.

The Wyckoff Connected Parent Series presents its annual session titled “Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB)- The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act” on May 28th at 6:30 PM in the Eisenhower School Media Center. The presenter will be Stephen Fogarty, Esq.

Here is our latest Cougar’s Cave Episode brought to you by 5T. Students have worked hard to put these together with Mrs. Provost. We hope you enjoy watching this episode!

Please complete this form if you want to be part of the selection process.  We have 60 volunteer spots available and plan to use a lottery system to select the volunteers.

All submissions are due by Monday, April 29th and you will be notified by  May 2nd of your volunteer status.

The New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) for grades 3-5 will occur on the dates listed below. Testing will begin immediately after Morning Meeting. Some parents have asked if these tests “count”. The answer is yes and the message for your children should be that all tests count and they should try their hardest on all the work they complete in school.  It also serves as great practice for other standardized tests they will take in their academic careers.

Also, please check that your child(ren) has working headphones in school as a set is needed for the assessments. Smartwatches, cell phones, and electronic devices are prohibited from the testing area and must be turned off and in backpacks.

Here are the dates:

May 7th-8th- Language Arts Grades 3-5

May 9th-10th- Science Grade 5 ONLY

May 14th-16th- Mathematics Grades 3-5

Attention fifth-grade parents: Eisenhower Middle School is hosting a 6th-grade Parent Transition Night on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 6:00-7:00 pm.  Meet Mr. Faehndrich, the principal, Mrs. Linzenbold, the assistant principal, and your child's guidance counselor, Mrs. Dobson.  Hear about the middle school day, ask questions, and get a tour by student peer facilitators.
