SCHOOLWIDE MEETING
On Friday, Coolidge School held its April schoolwide meeting. During this meeting, students learned about the life of President Calvin Coolidge, unfortunately, one of the presidents that is often forgotten. We read a book titled, Calvin The Coolest President by Austin Petersen. We also learned a little about life in the 1920’s when Coolidge was president. Learning together about our school's namesake helps foster a feeling of pride and community. Ask your child(ren) what they learned.

SOLAR ECLIPSE
The weather for Monday looks like it will cooperate so we can get a great look at this rare solar eclipse. Students will receive their glasses before dismissal on Monday. It is important to remember the following:
Glasses are for viewing the sun and the eclipse. They do not need to be worn while doing any other activity. In fact, it could be dangerous walking around with them as it will hinder your visibility. Do not walk around with them on!
Be aware of your surroundings! Do not try to view the eclipse while walking to your car or home. View from a safe location with your glasses on.
Parents, please be extra careful during pickup. Students and other parents may be distracted by this event. Safety first!
Resending my email from last week...
On Monday, April 8th, a solar eclipse will occur throughout the United States, including here in New Jersey, providing a unique learning opportunity for our students. A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, partially or entirely blocking the sun's light. Even if the sun isn't visible that day, the sky will get dark — starting around 2:09 p.m. and reaching maximum dimness at about 3:25 p.m. (the eclipse will end around 4:37 p.m.)
You will see that maximum dimness will occur around our dismissal time. While we will not hold a formal viewing event that day, we will provide solar eclipse viewing glasses to all students and staff members so that they have eye protection at dismissal. These glasses are labeled as meeting the ISO 12312-2 international standard for filters for direct sun observation and are essential for safe viewing to prevent eye damage. Dismissal will take place at 3:20 p.m. following regular procedures.
Teachers will incorporate lessons about solar eclipses into their curriculum, allowing students to learn about the science behind this phenomenon and its significance. I encourage you to talk to your child about the solar eclipse and the importance of following safety guidelines during dismissal. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know.
