students on pajama day

On behalf of the Coolidge Staff, best wishes for a relaxing vacation and a happy and healthy New Year! May we see continued prosperity, happiness, growth, and achievement for our students.

I am excited to share our annual COOLIDGE VIDEO GREETING CARD with the school community. “Cher” it with your family and friends to spread some holiday cheer! Thank you to Mr. Cosman for putting this together and for all of our Coolidge singers and dancers.

Coolidge School celebrated the beginning of vacation with our annual Holiday Singalong (a.k.a. Singapalooza), filled with songs and games led by Mrs. McCurry and Mr. Cosman. The students had an awesome time and it was such a nice way to end the week and start the holiday.

Thank you so much to the Coolidge PTO for organizing a Holiday Cookie Exchange for the staff. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and time to put together this event. Thank you also to our class parents who visited before the break to lead our students in some winter and holiday-themed activities, games, and crafts.

MEDIA CENTER UPDATE

January is awards time in the library world and we love to celebrate it here at Coolidge School. The Caldecott Award is given to the children's book with the best illustrations. Students in grades K-4 critique potential winners and choose their favorites. We have so much fun poring over the illustrations and debating which book is the most worthy. The winners will be announced on Monday, January 22, and we will spend that week reading them and deciding if we agree with the committee's choices. They also announce the Newbery Award that day, which is given to the children's book with the best writing. Fifth graders watched book trailers for previous winners and are looking forward to seeing which book will win this year.

REPORT CARDS

Reminder…Report cards are now available for grades 1-5 via the Genesis Parent Portal. Please know that report cards are intended to be a way to communicate with parents how their child is progressing towards meeting the grade level standards for a particular subject area. Learning is a continuum, and there will inherently be areas of strength and areas of growth for each student. Given that we utilize a standards-based report card, the indicators provide a context for whether the student is meeting, exceeding, or progressing toward a standard. Oftentimes, there are one or two benchmarks in a given subject area that a student is still working towards meeting. This should be met with an open, growth mindset, and a feeling that the student just hasn’t met the standard yet, but is working towards it.  Please refer to the information about standards-based report cards, including the benchmark links for each subject area, on our website.
