5th graders hard at work

The first full week of the new school year is in the books and I am so proud of our students for how they have adjusted to the new routines and norms. As I have visited classes and been with the students during recess and lunch each day, I have been impressed with their focus, hard work, and engagement. Thank you to the wonderful Coolidge staff who have helped our students have a great start to the year.

MILK ORDERING

Our district is offering an online method as well as payment by check for yearly milk orders. If you choose to use PaySchools Central and are not already registered, you may do so by logging on to www.payschoolscentral.com and selecting “Register” and following the prompts.

Please note that you will need your child’s 6-digit Student ID# which is located on the Parent Portal in Genesis next to your child’s picture.  If you have difficulty logging on to the Genesis Parent Portal, please contact the Genesis Helpdesk at genesis@wyckoffps.org.

If you are paying by check, please make it out to Wyckoff Board of Education. In the “Memo” section indicate the type of milk…1%, Skim, or Chocolate, and your child’s grade level. CASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Milk is offered to grades K-5 on a daily basis.  You can purchase milk for the entire year.  Milk will begin on Monday, September 18th and is available to be ordered through September 27th. The total cost is $110.00.

If you have any questions, please contact Randi Venema at 201-848-5710 x1202.

SAFETY PATROL

During this past week, all 5th-grade students heard a presentation about Safety Patrol and the responsibilities of becoming a Safety Patrol member. A letter was emailed home with a Google Form for students to sign up. Please sign up by Monday morning at the latest if you have not done so already. If you have any questions, please reach out to our Safety Patrol advisor Ms. Reitano at  creitano@wyckoffschools.org. Safety Patrol will begin at some point next week…more information to follow.

VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES

We are very appreciative of parent volunteers who serve pizza and bagel lunch at school, assist in the media center, or volunteer in some other capacity. With that being said, safety, security, and the orderly operation of the school must take priority. Please review the following guidelines when volunteering at school, especially for pizza and bagel lunch.

General Volunteer Guidelines:

  • All visitors must enter the building through the front entrance and sign in at the main office. You will need your driver’s license for entrance (fobs no longer work). This was recently reiterated by our Superintendent of Schools. The visitor’s badge must be worn clearly on your shirt/jacket.

  • When volunteering in the school you are not permitted to take photos or videos of students. Do not text photos or send updates to parents as to how their children are doing.

  • Do not use student bathrooms. If you need to use the restroom, you must report back to the main office and you will be directed from there.

  • Exterior doors cannot be propped open at any time (even for a few seconds).

  • When you have finished volunteering, you should report back to the main office to sign out.

Pizza and Bagel Lunch Volunteer Guidelines:

  • Your job is to make sure the students have the food they ordered. Do not sit down and join the children at the lunch tables. It is their time to socialize with their classmates.

  • You are not responsible for supervision or for “watching students” at lunch.

  • Although your parenting instincts might compel you to intervene, get involved with students, impose discipline, or try to help, the staff are responsible for the care of the students.

  • When finished with your shift, please sign out at the main office.

  • MPR doors should not be opened for vendors, staff, or other volunteers.
