paw  UPDATES, REMINDERS- DISTANCE/ONLINE LEARNING

As you are aware based on recent news reports, the Wyckoff Community experienced an inexcusable act of racism yesterday. Coolidge School joins the Wyckoff Township Committee and the Wyckoff Police Department in condemning these acts as despicable and reprehensible. It will be increasingly important for Coolidge School to come together as a staff, parents, and students to denounce hatred and spread tolerance and equity throughout our community.

Today is the last day of school. I wanted to once again thank you for your patience and support during these unprecedented times. As we move further into June and into the summer we will receive more guidance from the Governor and health officials regarding the reopening of school in September. As a school and district, we have been engaging in meetings to establish protocols, make contingency plans, and create schedules and routines for a safe reopening of school. As more information becomes available it will be shared with you.

Let's also once again take a moment to congratulate our 5th-grade students for their amazing accomplishments at Coolidge School and to wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors. We will miss them!

Placement and Report Cards

Report cards will be available via Genesis today at 2 pm. Class placement will be noted on the report cards and students will also receive a welcome video from their child's new teacher via email at around 2 pm. Incoming Kindergarten placement will take place later this summer.

Please note: Regarding placement, as there is uncertainty for what September will look like in terms of schedules and room capacities, there is always the possibility that changes will need to be made to class structures and rosters. We surely do not hope this will happen, but all possibilities are on the table.

Dr. Fiefer's Note Regarding Report Cards: The Wyckoff School District has focused its collective efforts during these unprecedented times upon one essential goal - to provide students with meaningful online instruction each day. We are encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive parent survey feedback about our work. Nevertheless, distance learning presents significant challenges for assessment. Even while our instruction is strong, there are limits to what can be assessed, as well as how. We ask you to understand that teachers will consider evidence of student performance more broadly than before. We will also follow the New Jersey Department of Education guidelines by not assigning “failing” grades to students who have struggled to find success with distance learning.

Virtual Clap Out Video

We have created a virtual 5th-grade clap-out video that includes all classes and staff members. This video can be seen on YouTube live at 11:45 am today. Please join along in "clapping out" our 5th-grade students.

Classroom Materials and Student Work at Home

K-4 students should hold onto all classroom materials, including Chromebooks, at home over the summer. It is recommended that Chromebooks are not used over the summer and all items are placed in a bag for safekeeping until later in the summer or September when items will be returned.

Also, please hold onto any completed work at home and return this to your child's new teacher in September.

Summer Fun Digital Resources

Mrs. Needleman has put together this presentation which includes many different fun and educational resources that students can engage in over the summer. I hope this resource is helpful to you as a parent. Summer Fun Digital Resources
