Creating a Caring Community

May 16, 2022

NJSLA Testing for grades 3-5 continues this week with Mathematics on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students should get a good night's rest and arrive at school on time. Please remind students, as with any tasks they encounter, that their best effort and a positive approach help lead to success. Make-up are ongoing during the month of May.

Our May Schoolwide Meeting will take place on Friday morning. At this time we will celebrate Military Appreciation Month. All students and staff are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue on Friday.

Check out the flyer for the Wyckoff Township's "Best Dressed Bicycle" contest at the May 30th Memorial Day Parade.

Thank you so much to our Coolidge PTO Executive Board and the many volunteers who have helped during recent events such as Kids Nights, the Science Fair, May Dinner, pizza/bagel lunch, media center, and so much more. All these events contribute so positively to our school community and have direct connections to our students. To sustain these types of events moving forward, the PTO needs your support and seeks volunteers for many upcoming events. Please consider volunteering and reaching out to Emma Faasse at [email protected]. We are especially in need of K-2 parents for upcoming events. Volunteering also serves as a wonderful way to make connections with and build friendships with other Coolidge parents.

Please review the following information on parent seminars that was posted in Dr. Postma's recent Wyckoff Schools Weekly. As I have noted on a few occasions this year, the topic of Social Media Awareness and Internet Safety is especially important to our students of all ages, as we have seen multiple distractions to learning and social/emotional impacts on children. Additionally, mental health continues to be an important topic for all.

On Tuesday, May 17, Melissa Straub of High Impact Youth Training Solutions, LLC will provide training for parents on social media awareness and internet safety. This seminar will take place at Eisenhower Middle School at 7:30pm. Ms. Straub will also provide student assemblies for all sixth, seventh, and eighth graders during school on the same day. In addition, clinical psychologist Paula Yanes-Lukin, Ph.D. will provide a parent seminar on May 25 at 9:15am at 270 Woodland Avenue to address the emotional and psychological well being of children and adolescents in a post-COVID  environment. Both of the above seminars are generously provided by the Wyckoff PTO Coordinating Council and are open to all K-8 parents, with no registration required. Also, all Wyckoff families are invited to attend a free evening event at Indian Hills High School on May 25 at 7:00pm with former NBA player Chris Herren, who will share his story of overcoming addiction.
