Kids had a lot of fun walking with Mr. Famularo and especially taking a chance to dunk him in the dunk tank!

The 3rd graders did a fantastic job discussing I Survived Hurricane Katrina 2005 by Lauren Tarsish. First we watched some actual footage from the Hurricane and then students recalled how the book effected them and told of some of the connections they made while reading. It was a great afternoon.

Wow! It's incredible how far our 5th graders have come. Some of these kids have been part of our book clubs since 1st grade and now five years later they discussed Wonder by RJ Palacio with an amazing insight and the enthusiasm of pros.


Our 2nd Grade Book Club with the Principal was an outstanding success as two groups of students insightfully and maturely discussed Bruce Coville's, The Dragon of Doom.

I Survived The Sinking of the Titanic by Lauren Tarshis
November, 2012-4th Graders did an outstanding job discussing this historical fiction novel. Using the iPads to supplement the discussion, students were able to check out authentic pictures and facts about the actual Titanic disaster.

They may be young, but our 1st graders did a wonderful job discussing Cork and Fuzz, The Swimming Lesson by Dora Chaconas. They were all enthusiastic and ready to take out the next book in the series!

You can certainly see the years of experience that these 5th graders have had from their wonderful and thought-provoking discussion of The Troublemaker by Andrew Clements.

Grade 4 did an outstanding job discuss a very insightful book, The Jacket by Andrew Clements. Students have certainly grown in their depth of discussion and observation over the years.


Mr. Famularo was the Mystery Reader for 2P on Friday, December 8, 2011.


3rd Graders enjoyed a great talk about the book, Jake Drake, Class Clown by Andrew Clements. It was a story that all of our students could relate to and it got a thumbs up by everyone.

The first book club of the year was a big hit with the 2nd graders. Their discussions about Iris and Walter and Cousin Howie were so insightful and the way they expressed their opinions made us all very proud.

The first grade met for the first time with Mr. Famularo on Thursday, May 5th and Friday, May 6th to discuss Cork and Fuzz- Finders Keepers by Dori Chaconas. It was a great discussion and everyone did a remarkable job!

This month 24 students participated in the 4th Grade Book Club with the Principal! The discussion of The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies spurred some great discussion and the kids now anxiously await the book's sequel, The Lemonade Crime which is scheduled to be released in May.

Our 5th graders have come a long way since their first book group with the principal 5 years ago. Their discussions about Wringer by Jerry Spinelli were insightful and intelligent. You would have thought that all of these kids were professional book talkers!

Congratulations to our Scripps National Spelling Bee Winners- 2nd Place, Runner Up was Sean C. Our first place winner who will be representing Coolidge in the next phase of the Championship, competing against students from other towns is Rachel G.

Our 3rd graders were awesome in their discussion and insights about the book Jake Drake, Teacher's Pet by Andrew Clements. We really had a great conversation.

The first Principal's Book Club of the year was met with tremendous enthusiasm by our 2nd graders who read and discussed the book Big Al and Shrimpy by Andrew Clements.

Mr. Famularo and a group of Coolidge students learned a lot about fire safety at the October 15, 2010 assembly presented by the Wyckoff Fire Department.

Mr. Famularo read One Smile by Cindy McKinley to Mrs. DeWitt's second grade class. Reinforcing our school theme of ONE, the kids learned how just one smile could set off a chain of "won"derful events.



Our 1st graders enjoyed their first Principal's Book Club, sharing ideas and insights as if they have been reading for years. Who knew that there was so much to say about Iris and Walter and Cousin Howie by Elissa Haden Guest.

Fifth graders showed us how far they have come with their insightful, intellectual and interesting discussions and connections made during our book group. Holes by Louis Sachar was discussed on March 18, 2010 in our courtyard.

Mr. Famularo and Kindergartener Cole, enjoy some fun in the sun on our Coolidge Beach during the Read-A-Thon to raise money for our Media Center.


The 2nd graders enjoyed wonderful discussions about the book, The Captain Contest, the first book in the Soccer Cats series by Matt Christopher at the Principal's Book Club on Thursday, February 11, 2010.

The second grade had a great time discussing the book, Iris and Walter, True Friends by Elissa Haden Guest, at ourBook Club with the Principal held on December 3, 2008.
